History

The glory of the School of Physics and Telecommunications Engineering stems from the hard work of several generations of the physics department.

In October 1951, the Department of Physics was established in Shiliugang, Guangzhou, and then moved to Huanghua Road. In 1952, it was located at Shipai Campus.

In 1958, the Department of Physics presided over the establishment of the Guangzhou Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the director was concurrently served by Wang Yanshi, the former Dean of South China Normal University.

Established a radio factory in 1969, and successively set up a machinery factory, an electronics factory, a foundry, a motor factory, etc. to provide a good practice base for teaching and research.

In 1979, the Integrated Circuit Research Institute and Modern Education Technology Research Office were established. Later, they separated from the Department of Physics and established the original Institute of Microelectronics and the Department of Electronic Education.

In 1978, it began to recruit graduate students in teaching materials, modern education, wireless electronics, solid state physics, semiconductor physics and semiconductor device physics, and optics. Teaching materials, teaching methods and optics were awarded master degrees in 1984 and 1986 respectively.

In 1984, the radio electronics teacher major and engineering major were opened.

In 1989, the post and telecommunications specialty was established.

In 1993, the undergraduate major of telecommunications engineering was opened, and the communication professional talents were cultivated jointly with the Provincial Telecommunications Bureau.

The Department of Telecommunications Engineering was established in 1994, and the Department of Physics adopted a set of two brands.

In 1996, the discipline of optics was awarded a doctoral degree, and the optoelectronic technology and system was a national "211" project construction project.

In 1998, microelectronics and solid-state electronics were awarded a master's degree.

In 2000, Circuits and Systems was granted a master's degree. The two newly opened specialties of communication and telecommunications technology and computer application and maintenance are enrolled in Nanhai College.

In 2001, the undergraduate correspondence program of communication engineering began to enroll students.

In 2002, optics was selected as a national key discipline; electronic science and technology was awarded the first batch of IT brand-name majors in the province.

In 2003, the undergraduate major of materials physics was added and enrolled. In July of the same year, the School of Physics and Telecommunications Engineering was established. Set up four departments. The undergraduate correspondence major of electronic information science and technology began to enroll students. Condensed Matter Physics is awarded a master's degree, and microelectronics and solid-state electronics are awarded a doctoral degree.

In 2004, the undergraduate major of science education was added, and physics was awarded the provincial famous major.

In August 2005, it moved into the university town as a whole. Theoretical physics obtained the master degree authorization point, and the electronic information science and technology obtained the first-level discipline master degree authorization point.

In September 2006, it was approved as the first batch of national experimental teaching demonstration centers in the country-the national-level physics basic courses experimental teaching demonstration center.

In August 2007, Physics was approved as a post-doctoral mobile station.

In March 2011, Physics was approved as a first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization.

In February 2013, it was approved as Guangdong Province Key Laboratory of Quantum Control Engineering and Materials.

In September 2014, Electronic Science and Technology was approved as a post-doctoral mobile station.

In June 2017, electronic science and technology was approved as a first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point, and materials science and engineering was approved as a first-level discipline master degree authorization point; in the same year, physics was approved as a world-class construction discipline.

In 2019, the physics teacher major passed the second-level teacher certification of the Ministry of Education, established the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Science Education and Research Center, and added a national-level major (a national first-class undergraduate major in physics) and a new provincial-level first-rate major (Electronic Science and Technology), was approved as Guangdong Key Laboratory of Nuclear Matter Science and Technology in November.

In 2020, the Southern Nuclear Science Computing Center will be established, the Guangdong-Hong Kong Quantum Matter Joint Laboratory will be approved, and two provincial-level first-class undergraduate majors will be added (electronic information science and technology, electronic information engineering)
