报告题目:Exploring novel topological physics in higher dimensions

  What our universe could be if it has higher spatial dimensions beyond three dimensions (3D)? To answer this question satisfactorily is really hard and challenging, though it is quite intriguing and fundamental in physics. Fortunately and interestingly, topological insulators are ideal physical systems to display novel phenomena in higher dimensions simply because topological features are critically sensitive to spatial dimensions. Based on some experimental advances of higher-dimensional physics in synthetic matter, in this talk, I will present two of our recent work about novel topological phases in 4D. In particular, various topological quantum-responses, including electromagnetic ones, from the four-dimension bulk-system to its 3D boundary have been predicted, and meanwhile a host of exotic topological phase transitions have been revealed, with very rich phase diagrams being discovered. It is believed that these work will be of great interest to the wide physics communities, which can further open new directions for exploring topological world in higher dimensions in terms of the innovative approach developed here.

专家简介:

  2015年本科毕业于华南理工大学,2020年博士毕业于南京大学物理学院,比利时法语布鲁塞尔自由大学联合培养博士。目前在香港大学从事博士后研究,主要从事拓扑物态理论及基于冷原子等人工系统量子模拟研究,在Science, PRL, PRA/B等期刊发表论文十余篇。当前主要研究兴趣为高能与凝聚态物理的结合及其模拟,尤其是涉及规范场和拓扑方面的研究。
